Day 5: Mother’s Deep Renewal

Congratulations, we’re now at the end of the 5-day mini-course!

I hope you’ve tried some of my suggestions and starting to see some benefits. It can be disheartening to deal with a lot of fatigue but don’t give up, it is doable and you can get big changes in a short time.

In this last day, we will explore how to go deeper with healing your body and working with your emotions to overcome fatigue. These are probably the two most important secrets I share with you. If you do anything work these two steps.

On Being the Perfect Mom…

These days, women juggle MANY things, and with that seems to come with a lot of guilt. There’s healthy guilt that we feel when we’ve done something wrong. But the guilt many of us feel as mothers often has to do with feeling that we have to get everything “right” and take care of everything ourselves ALL the time.

The “perfect mom” mentality can come in all forms and sizes. It doesn’t just effect career moms or soccer moms, it can affect the holistic natural mom, the stay at home mom, you name it.  Trying to live up to some ideal is exhausting!

The remedy to trying to live up to some idealized “mother self” is to become more of your OWN authentic mother self.

I have created a worksheet that can help you make room for more of your authentic self and let go of some of the idealized expectations that may be hindering you. It’s called the Mother Heart Map because it helps you get closer to your core gifts as a mother. Gifts you can bring to your child and the rest of your life.

Herbs to Reboot Your Energy Reserves

When you have difficulty getting motivated, dragging yourself through your day, or have difficulty getting the energy to exercise, then adaptogenic herbs may be the missing key you need to know about.

Tonic herbs in Chinese medicine come in several different categories. The ones that will help with general long-standing fatigue are the herbs known as Qi tonics or Energy Tonics, also classified as adaptogenic herbs. These herbs directly help your endocrine and nervous system adapt to ongoing stress. These herbs are sometimes marketed as “adrenal” formulas because many of the herbs directly benefit the adrenal glands and the balance of cortisol in the body.

Here is a list of commonly used adaptogenic herbs:

  • Ginseng
  • Siberian Ginseng
  • Ashwagandha
  • Codonopsis
  • Rhodiola
  • Holy Basil
  • Licorice
  • Cordyceps

Most tonic herbs come in formulas grouped together with other adaptogenic to work synergistically.

Tonic herbs work the best by taking them for several months. It is best to take them in the morning and at lunch but not in the evening. They can actually help you sleep better by lowering overall cortisol levels.

You should not take them if you are pregnant or if you have any type of active infection, cold, or flu. Make sure if your on any medications there are no known contraindications.

Ashwagandha, on its own, is one of the best choices for lactating women, even though it is hard to find definitive information on the safety of taking herbs during lactation this is the one I recommend.  Please do your own research on breastfeeding safety and herbs. Here is a compilation of my research: Breastfeeding and Herbal Safety Tips.

New Chapter Stress Advantage

There are many combinations of adaptogenic herbs out there on the market. One that I like and have found particularly helpful is Stress Advantage from New Chapter Herbs.
